Meno a Kwena is a beautiful safari camp located near Makgadikgadi Salt Pans in Botswana. It is an authentic, real African experience but most of all it is part of a concept that could work for all other African countries.

David Dugmore, the drive behind the project, combines all aspects of Africa in this unique project. Both nature and local people are involved in his attempt to learn Africans how to benefit from their natural surroundings in order to make a living.

What was done already and how does it work? Years ago, David started his camp on the border of the salt pans. He noticed that during the dry season, wildlife migrated more often to other overpopulated parks and thus he decided to build water holes to keep animals ( and tourists) in the area. As he already cooperated with the local people from the nearby town Moreomaoto, he also installed water pomps in the village itself. Slowly he started not only to employ people from the village in the camp but also to use benefits from the camp to improve the village. How does your trip to me help?

Your visit to the camp will provide the necessary funds for:

  • Giving employment to over 30 locals who this way provide a living for about 300 people. That is half the population of the village.
  • Additional water pomps in Moreomaoto and water holes for the large herds of zebra, elephant etc.
  • Building materials for village houses.
  • All sorts of school materials.

How to get there

Meno a Kwena is located in Botswana near the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans and about half way between Maun and Nata.

How much does it cost?

Costs are about 400 dollar a night, for two people all meals, safaris and transfers to and from Maun airport are included.

Visits are possible all year round.
